General objective: To improve our understanding of the feeding ecology of Mesotheriids from the Miocene of Chile. Specific Objectives: 1. To investigate the masticatory morphology and kinematics of Caraguatypotherium munozi. 2. To reconstruct the paleodiet of C. munozi. 3. To reveal the paleoenvironmental conditions, C. munozi and related fauna were exposed to. 4. To expand the existing hypodigm of C. munozi and other Miocene fauna from the Cuenca Copaquilla-Ticnamar outcrops. Moreover, to address the question as to how many taxa of notoungulata were present.
